In 2014, the Grand Départ comes to Yorkshire. This will be the first time a Cultural Festival will run prior to and alongside the event - a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase to the world the wealth of culture on offer in our fine county.
The Festival itself will run from 27 March - 6 July 2014, the start day being the 100 day milestone until the Tour arrives in Yorkshire. The Festival gives us an opportunity to:
• Create a global showcase for the best of Yorkshire's artistic talent
• Push boundaries and raise Yorkshire's creative profile
• Produce activity that leaves a legacy for artists, participants and audiences
• Draw communities and artists together to celebrate the Grand Départ in Yorkshire
Across the county and along the route, Yorkshire will welcome the world, with millions experiencing and getting involved in innovative and ambitious world-class work.
We have received many hundreds of submissions, across the county and ranging across all art forms. We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to think, talk with us, talk with each other and submit their idea. We are very appreciative.
We will be working closely with the steering group and will be in touch with all those who have submitted their proposals in early December. The full Festival programme will be launched in late January 2014.
You can still be involved in the Cultural Festival. The Sportive programme will run alongside the main commissions. All arts/cultural events taking place across the 100 days of The Festival in Yorkshire can be involved, and will be promoted alongside the key driving force of the above. The Sportive programme events will be promoted online via a dedicated website. There is no deadline for submitting your events within the Sportive, but the sooner, the better, bearing in mind the anticipated launch date in January. So, if you are hosting an event, festival, exhibition or workshop that is open to the public acros the 100 days of The Festival, submit this to us vis the online form. Please have as much information as you can ready, along with images. The information you provide here will be what the public sees on the website, so make it catchy, informative and welcoming!
