Santos Tour Down Under
In 2016 the Santos Tour Down Under and Tour de Yorkshire formalised a partnership to see both events promoted globally.
Over the last three years this has further strengthened the already great relationship between South Australia and Yorkshire, sharing knowledge and working in collaboration to achieve international visitation and awareness for both events.
The Santos Tour Down Under is the southern hemisphere’s biggest UCI cycling race, and is widely considered Australia’s greatest cycling race – being the nation’s first event to earn UCI WorldTour status in 2008.
Opening the UCI WorldTour race calendar each year, the Santos Tour Down Under attracts some of the world’s best riders (including three-time world champion Peter Sagan), plus Australia’s premier male and female riders Richie Porte, Rohan Dennis, Caleb Ewan and Amanda Spratt.
Bigger and better in 2019
In 2019, the Santos Tour Down Under will open the world pro cycling calendar with an 11-day festival of cycling including the esteemed men’s race and the UCI 2.1 women’s race.
The women’s race will take riders through the Barossa, Adelaide Hills and Mount Barker before finishing in Adelaide CBD.
The men’s event will travel through these same regions, plus the Fleurieu Peninsula, finishing atop the famed Willunga Hill – the race’s Queen Stage – to decide the winner.
An incredible festival of cycling
Adelaide comes alive during the Santos Tour Down Under – with the popular City of Adelaide Tour Village in the centre of the CBD bringing fans up close and personal with the professionals. Combined with a range of public events such as the Challenge Tour mass participation ride, Mini Tour for Kids and Family Rides, and new events including the southern hemisphere debut of StreetVelodrome UK and the Santos Beat the Street Time Trial, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
And that’s not to mention the premium food and wine on offer at three twilight street parties throughout Adelaide – at popular high street locals like The Parade, Norwood; King William Road, Unley; and Jetty Road, Glenelg.
The best Australia has to offer
South Australia’s regions offer gastronomic delight, award-winning wines and spectacular scenery within 30 minutes’ drive of Adelaide CBD. Whether you’re tasting the state’s world-renowned premium food and wine in the Barossa or McLaren Vale, enjoying a day trip through the picturesque Adelaide Hills, hitting the white sands of the Fleurieu Peninsula, or watching a game of test cricket at the Adelaide Oval, you’ll find something to love about Adelaide and the regions.
