Free Tour de Yorkshire Education Pack launched!
Tour de Yorkshire organisers Welcome to Yorkshire have launched their free Education Pack for the 2020 edition which provides schools with a whole host of fun and exciting ways to get involved.
The pack is aimed at children between five and 16 years old (key stages 1-4) and details the history of the race, the route, jerseys, teams and riders along with a variety of activities – from course designing, race reporting and practical riding advice.
The resource, developed with education consultant Nathan Atkinson, can be used in a variety of ways, from providing teachers with basic, top-line information, right the way through to suggested lesson plans, and can be matched to the skills and needs of the pupils who use it.
If that wasn’t enough, there is also an exclusive competition which tasks pupils with designing a poster about reducing litter on the route which will be printed onto the side of a Biffa waste disposal vehicle that will be part of the pre-race publicity caravan. The winner will also receive four VIP tickets to a stage start or finish of their choice.
The pack has been circulated to every local authority across Yorkshire, who in-turn, have been requested to make it available to every school across the county.

Welcome to Yorkshire Chief Executive James Mason said: “One of the key reasons why we organise the Tour de Yorkshire is to encourage people to lead healthier, more active and greener lives. Riding a bike ticks all those boxes and that’s why we produce this pack, to inspire children to get excited about the Tour and the many benefits cycling can bring.
“While it’s aimed primarily at teachers, the pack can be used outside the classroom as well, by parents, youth club leaders, or anyone who works with children. We hope it will provide an interesting and useful resource, and that it gets more youngsters to give cycling a go.”
The sixth edition of the Tour de Yorkshire takes place from Thursday 30th April until Sunday 3rd May.
